Carcinogenic Johnson baby Johnson powder claim more than 400 million US dollars

A woman in the United States is suffering from cancer using Johnson & Johnson's infant talcum powder containing talc. A court in Los Angeles, California, decided on the 21st that Johnson & Johnson had indemnified $ 417 million (about 2.78 billion yuan) to the woman.

This woman is called Eva & Enged; Echeverria, aged 63. The jury found that her affliction with cancer did indeed have a link with Johnson & Johnson products and ruled that Johnson & Johnson should pay the indemnity, of which $ 70 million was the compensation and $ 347 million was the punitive damages.

This talcum powder baby powder is Johnson & Johnson's star product. Echeverria confirmed in a testimony video to court that he started using talcum powder at the age of 11. Local media reported that Echeverria keep the lower body clean and comfortable with powder. After being diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2007, she has not linked her cancer to using Johnson & Johnson products and continues to use talcum powder.

It is not until 2016 when Echeverria saw a news story about another woman suffering from ovarian cancer due to long-term use of Johnson & Johnson powder, then awakened and realized that she had cancer the real reason.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer, affiliated with the World Health Organization, lists talc as a "potentially carcinogenic to the human body." Talcum is a natural product that is mined from the soil and consists of magnesium, silicon, oxygen, and hydrogen that absorb moisture, prevent caking and improve the texture of the product and are widely used in cosmetics and personal care products.

The American Cancer Society believes that the greatest concern about the link between talc and cancer is focused on two groups of people: people who are exposed to long-term exposure to natural talc fibers, such as talc miners, who may be The high incidence of lung cancer; the second is often used in the reproductive parts of talcum powder women, their risk of ovarian cancer will increase.

Currently, Echeverria is seriously ill and will soon be dead.

Echeverria said in a video that she would not have used talc if Johnson had tabooed the use of the product.

Associated Press quoted Echeverria's attorney Mark Robinson as saying that Etcheverria wants Johnson & Johnson to mark the product to remind consumers that many women in the United States Like Echeverria, use this brand of powder for as long as two or three decades. Robinson pointed out that over the past few decades, Johnson & Johnson's internal documents show that this company has always known that talcum may cause ovarian cancer, but consumers hide the truth.

Johnson & Johnson denied the allegations and said in court that many testing organizations such as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration have found no carcinogenicity of talc.

In 2012, a Virginia-based woman with ovarian cancer received about $ 110 million (730 million yuan) in compensation from Johnson & Johnson for using the company's talcum powder for 40 years. At present, courts across the United States have accepted over 4,800 lawsuits alleging that Johnson & Johnson talcum powder or bath products are carcinogenic.
